Turning off the ignition and restarting clears the problem. Checked the brake fluid level which was OK. I have the same issue on my '99 except the light remains off until a minute or so after I start driving, which usually indicates a sensor-related problem. Mine is throwing up 2 codes: C1185 & C1230 - Possible bad ABS module and rear sensor.
