But, as part of the work, I wanted to determine the number of hours on my (new to me) tractor. I removed the instrument panel - applied 12v to pin 17 and ground to pin 20 - and nothing on the hour meter.

In the BIF connector the ground is the position 3R. The power supply to BIF is made by pins 14L (wire 992 straight from fuse F04_09) and 10L (wire 922 straight from fuse F04_10).
