I have the Savage axis in 6.5 and it's a great an excellent, accurate rifle. Came with a nice scope too. The axis is junk. Ruger all day. It's a $350 rifle and scope combo it's not a world beater but it's a great budget rifle and at the ranges most shots are taken from it's perfectly accurate.

The 18" barrel, for me, is the happy medium between the 16" on the Savage and 22" on the Marlin. The trigger, while externally similar to the Savage (and Marlin) is much easier to tune without the need for after-market parts.It pains me to say this, because I'm a huge Savage fan, but I'd choose the Ruger American out of those two.
